Abstract:

A taxonomic revision of the genus Scrophularia in the Iberian Peninsula and Baleares has been made. The most important taxonomical characteristics for the delimitation of Species are those relative to indument, leaf's size and morphology, morphology and coloration of the calyx, corolla and staminode. In this study 29 taxa are recognized: 23 Species, 3 subspecies and 3 varieties, grouped in two sections: Scrophularia (subsect. Scrophularia and Vernales) and Canina, the later represented in the study área only by the Subsect. Canina. In addition, a key has been elaborated to the identification of the Species. For each taxon synonyms, description, phenology, chromosomic number, ecólogy, distribution, commentaries on tipification as well as an icón and distribution map are recorded. The names S. bourgeana Lange, S. tanacetifolia Willd., S. balbisii Hornem, and S. laxiflora Lange were recovered and the following new combinations were established: S. balbisii subsp, valentina (Rouy) Ortega Olivencia & Devesa, and S. scorodonia var. glabrescens (Coutinho) Ortega Olivencia & Devesa. Two new Species were earlier recorded in this project: S. viciosoi Ortega Olivencia & Devesa and S. valdesii Ortega Olivencia & Devesa. The presence of S. aquatica L., S. laevigata Vahl, S. canina subsp, bicolor Sibth. & Sm., S. lucida L., and S. hoppii Koch, previously recorded by several authors was ruled out for this study area.
