La abstracción geométrica en España (1957-1969)

Paula Barreiro López

Biography: Paula Barreiro López es investigadora de la Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología, y está asociada a la School of Architecture de la Universidad de Liverpool. Se licenció en Historia del Arte en la Universidad de Salamanca, obteniendo el primer Premio Nacional de Licenciatura, y se doctoró en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid en 2007, siendo becaria del Instituto de Historia del CSIC. Ha realizado una formación internacional en la Universidad de la Sorbonne y en la Escuela del Louvre (París), donde obtuvo su diploma en museología. Además de artículos en revistas especializadas y en volúmenes colectivos sobre el arte español durante el franquismo y la crítica de arte, ha publicado el libro Arte normativo español (Madrid: CSIC, 2006).

Abstract:

This work undertakes a rigorous and well documented study of the development of abstract/geometric trends in Spain between 1957 and 1969. The sixties marked a return to geometrical forms worldwide, and Spain was no exception, with the emergence of a new generation of artists keen to experiment with geometry and pursued analysis and reason. The author reconstructs and analyses the various geometrical movements existing in Spain, such as normative, concrete, kinetic and optical art, etc. It highlights artists, movements and documents from the period, showing a new physiognomy of the factors shaping Spanish arts in the sixties.
