Abstract:
This volume, number XVII in the series of Onomastic-Biographical Studies of Al-Andalus, reconstructs the history of certain individuals and certain political, religious and social interventions during the Middle Ages on the Maghreb stage, an area that has unique characteristics as a result of historical circumstances and ethnic, religious and linguistic factors shaped by a kind of miscegenation. The work is divided into four sections. The first, entitled “Individuals, scholars and politicians in the medieval Ibadi world” is devoted to Maghrebi Ibadis. The second section studies some leading personalities who played an important role in the history of medieval Maghreb. The third, “Maghrebi Writers between knowledge, politics and religion”, includes several studies on prominent authors in Maghrebi intellectual and political life in the VI-XII and IX-XV centuries. The fourth and final block is dedicated to tribal groups, religious elites and circles of power.
