Abstract:

This volume documents several hundred newly identified Sumerian literary fragments in the Babylonian Section, University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology of the University of Pennsylvania, by handcopy and photograph. The fragments treated in this volume primarily pertain to previously identified Sumerian literary compositions. These involve myths and epics, including several new fragments belonging to the Gilgamesh cycle, the Sumerian kinglist, the city laments, royal hymns and hymns to temples, literary letters, law collections and proverbs. Pertinent commentary to any new content offered by these fragments is treated in detail in this volume.
