Abstract:
This volume presents the background, aims and initial actions carried out as part of an archaeological research project based on the study of Monumental Landscapes in the central region of Uruguay. The project, based on scientific cooperation between the Department of Archaeology of the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences (UdelaR) and the Landscape Archaeology Laboratory of the Padre Sarmiento Institute of Galician Studies (Spanish National Research Council) took place between 2001 and 2002, and was financed by the Spanish International Cooperation Agency and the Sectorial Commission. The main objectives of the project included the consolidation of exchanges focusing on the scientific work between two academic spheres, and making a profound exploration of monumental landscapes in cognitive terms and as heritage elements. A series of actions were designed aimed at identifying, characterising and analysing monuments found in Uruguay, as well as laying the foundations for creating a proposal for the integral management of these landscapes. In this case we had the support of the application and development of innovative methods and technologies for the integral management of Cultural Heritage in Uruguay.
