Abstract:

One of the CSIC's functions is to inform, assist and advise public and private entities on science and technology, as stated in article 5 of its Articles of Association. As part of this function, the report Loss of Biodiversity in the Current Scenario of GLobal Change is presented as a document aimed at administrations and society in general. It analyses the complexity and social importance of biodiversity for life on earth, as well as the main causes and consequences of its loss over the years. This work also outlines some of the main lines of action being carried out by the CSIC to address this issue at the national level in relation to long-term conservation, legislation and land use planning, and scientific assessment activities to reverse certain trends. It also includes the institution's main contributions to major international policy lines, especially at the European level.
