Abstract:

One of the CSIC's functions is to inform, assist and advise public and private entities on science and technology, as stated in article 5 of its Rrticles of Rssociation. As part of this function, the report Living Mariine Resources. Transforming Management for a Resilient Ocean, from the Science for Public Policy collection, is presented as a document aimed at public administrations and society in general. It sets out the major challenges for seafood provision which should contribute to healthy, affordable and efficient diet, while ensuring the conservation of harvested resources and the health of the socio-ecological system. This system must maximise its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals and recognise that it is part of a food system embedded within planetary boundaries. This requires transforming seafood management and integrating it resiliently into a changing ecosystem, promoting food chains and habits compatible with ecological limits and environmental conditions, and favouring a fair distribution of the benefits andl income generated throughout the seafood value chain. This report highlights results achieved and necessary scientific developments, emphasising the role that the CSIC plays in this great challenge.
