Abstract:

C4 and CAM are interesting species in our flora because of their physiological characteristics and the conditions in which they live and also for their technical potentiality in the improvement of the agricultural, environmental and forestry conditions, of the environments strongly subject to water stress. This book presents some studies on biology, physiology, biochemistry, histology and biotechnology of the C4 and CAM plants of the Spanish Mediterranean and of the arid lands of Chile and Argentina. There are also some researches on water resources, on physicochemical regulation of the soil and on the influence of salinity and two studies on the biological potential and the adaptations of the plants C3, C4 and CAM, and the experiences of establishment in the field. The ultimate goal of these studies is to generate new knowledges about these resources and the necessity for their incorporation into enhancement programs of the lands more heavily affected by rural neglect.
