Abstract:
Additives, along with cement, water and aggregates, have been a basic component of concrete for many years. Adding small quantities of superplastifying additives (in quantities no greater that 1% of that of the cement by mass) to the water used to mix the concrete can enable improved mortar and concrete properties to be obtained. Indeed, the use of these superplastifying additives has revolutionized concrete technology in two main ways: In terms of the water/cement ratio, which means greater strength and durability; and in terms of workability and improvements in the rheological properties of the concrete.
