Abstract:
This new volume of Literatura Breve publishes the catalogue entries for books in the Colección teatro (Theatre Collection), which won the National Theatre Award in 1952 and was a prolific collections of plays, with a total of 785 issues published, bringing theatrical works to readers over a period spanning from 1951 to 1976. Putting the slogan on the collection’s volumes into practice, “All contemporary theatre in pocket editions,”it published the works of a splendid generation of playwrights, which included Antonio Buero Vallejo, Alfonso Paso, Alfonso Sastre and Miguel Mihura. The collection as a whole paints a panorama of Spanish society in the second half of the twentieth century through its theatrical tastes. The last issue was the closing page of a history of publishing Spanish theatre.
