Abstract:
This book takes us on a journey through the history of Spain in the early eighteenth century, starting with the arrival of Barbara de Braganza (1711-1758) in Spain as a Portuguese princess with the far from easy task of marrying Prince Ferdinand, heir to the throne. Following the guidelines of modern historiography, the book describes daily life in the palace and the Royal Sites, then turns its focus to fundamental aspects of the health situation in Spain, the health care monarchs received, the queen's ill health, the drugs she was given and, finally, her death throes.
