Abstract:

The publication of this book brings readers Antonio Blanco Freijeiro¿s work Arte griego (Greek art). This classic manual, originally written over fifty years ago but still valid as a reference work, runs along the thread of the story that begins with Cretan-Mycenaean art, Greek primitive art and oriental art, continues with the architecture, sculpture and ceramics of the Archaic period, then covers the various stages of the classical period, to end with the study of architecture, sculpture and painting of the Hellenistic period. This third, revised, edition reproduces the original text unaltered but also includes a presentation of the author by his daughter, Mercedes Blanco, a preliminary study by Pilar León, a collection of colour plates that serve as a supplement to the graphic documentation intercalated in the chapters, and an index.
