Abstract:
In May 1934 the Institute for Construction and Building, created shortly before by Eduardo Torroja and a select group of architects and engineers, began to publish the journal “Hormigón y Acero”, which was unfortunately discontinued after its 26th monthly issue in June 1936. When the institute resumed its activities in 1941, its staff realized the importance of having a technical periodical dealing specifically with construction to disseminate the knowledge and publicize the innovations stemming from its research. This was when the “Anales del Instituto técnico de la construcción y edificación” [Annals of the Institute for Construction and Building] came into being. This journal was published every year until 1946, when the Institute joined the Spanish National Research Council [CSIC] under the umbrella of the Juan de la Cierva Trust, and became the public research centre specializing in construction that it is today. Nevertheless, two years later, sixty years ago now, the Institute launched a new periodical, the journal “Informes de la Construcción”, to once again disseminate information. The journal, which may be regarded to be a successor to “Hormigón y Acero” and “Anales”, has been published uninterruptedly for the last six decades.
