Abstract:
This volume brings together the contributions presented at the third and final meeting of a series of conferences on architectural works in the Roman world. The theme of this third meeting was the economics of construction works, both in terms of their internal economy, in the sense of how assets were managed during the construction process, and the external economy, in the sense of how the work fitted into a broader economic context in which a series of legal and social relationships were intertwined. The talks dealt with the location of the works in space and time and the legislative framework in which they were set, the costs of the works and ways in which they were paid for, along with the tools and materials, and construction and demolition techniques used. The work as a whole gives an overview of the dynamics of the construction process in a way that complements other research on types and styles of Roman architecture.
