Abstract:

The current volume of the series of Fauna Ibérica is dedicated to Mollusca Solenogastres, Caudofoveata and Monoplacophora from the coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. It presents a general introduction to Mollusca, including a study of their organization, development and systematics as well as a discussion about the classification of Solenogastres and Caudofoveata as Mollusca Aplacophora. In this book, 42 species of Solenogastres, grouped in 29 genera and 14 families, 14 Caudofoveata in 4 genera and 3 families and 2 Monoplacophora grouped in 1 genus and 1 family are compiled and differentiated by means of identification keys. Each class is introduced by a study of its systematic position, geographical distribution, morphology and anatomy of adults, features of non-adult stages, natural history, sampling and conservation methods and study techniques. A description and iconography of each species, highlighting the most important anatomical characteristics as well as aspects of their biology and geographical distribution are shown in this work. The final part of the text includes an extensive body of references and an update of the nomenclature of the taxa present on the studied area.
