Abstract:
Annelida Polychaeta VII is a new contribution to the knowledge of the Polychaetes of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. This volume includes a study of the families Onuphidae Kinberg, 1865, Eunicidae Berthold, 1827, Apistobranchidae Mesnil y Caullery, 1898, Spionidae Grube, 1850, Trochochaetidae Pettibone, 1963, Poecilochaetidae Hannerz, 1956, Longosomatidae Hartman, 1944 and Sternaspidae Carus, 1863. An in-depth taxonomic and bibliographic review is done, including a general introduction to the main anatomical, taxonomic, and systematic aspects of each family, as well as keys for the identification of genera and species. For each of the 124 species included in this volume, the reader will find a description with the most relevant diagnostic morphological characters illustrated with drawings and photographs, as well as a summary of the state-of-the-art on their biology and geographical distribution. There were five previous volumes on Polychaetes of the Fauna Ibérica series: Volume 21 (San Martín, 2003), 25 (Viéitez et al., 2004), 36 (Parapar et al., 2012), 41 (Parapar et al., 2015), 45 (Parapar et al., 2019) and 47 (Cepeda et al., 2022); this new volumen represents a substantial advance in the study of the orders Eunicida Uschakov, 1955, Spionida Hatschek, 1893 and Terebellida Levinsen, 1883.
