Abstract:

The species of Peltigera present in the Iberian Peninsula and their lichenicolous fungi are studied. Twenty four taxa of Peltigera occur in this area (18 taxa are found in Andorra, 24 in Spain and 13 in Portugal). Anatomical, chemical, chorological, ecological and morphological data are discussed in each taxa, mainly based on extensive field studies and herbaria revision (around 4000 samples). A key to the Iberian taxa is provided, and distribution maps are presented in each taxa. Peltigera didactyla var. extenuata, P. kristinssonii, P. melanorrhiza, P. monticola and P. neopolydactyla are recorded for the first time in the Peninsula. Two new undescribed morphotypes are found in P. leucophlebia and P. neopolydactyla, and a new chemotype in P. melanorrhiza. New anatomical, morphological or chemical differences (not point out before) are found within P. aphthosa, P. didactyla s.l., P. hymenina, P. malacea and P. polydactylon. Forty one especies of lichenicolous fungi growing on Peltigera thalli were found. Eleven species are lichenized Ascomycetes and thirty are lichenicolous fungi non lichenized (21 Ascomycetes, 5 Coelomycetes and 4 Hyphomycetes), of which twenty four species are first records to the Iberian Peninsula. Graphium aphthosae, Hawksworthiana peltigericola, Lasiosphaeriopsis salisburyi, Leucocarpia dictyospora, Libertiella curvispora, Lichenopeltella santessonii, Norrlinia peltigericola, Phoma epiparmelia, Pronectria ornamentata and Stigmidium pseudopeltideae are specially pointed out because of the wide enlargements in their world distribution area.
