El Séfer Méšec betí, de Eliézer Papo: ritos y costumbres sabáticas de los sefardíes de Bosnia

Biography: Katja Šmid se ha formado como hispanista en la Universidad de Ljubljana (Eslovenia), donde obtuvo su Doctorado en 2010, y como sefardista en el grupo de Estudios hispanojudíos y sefardíes del CSIC en Madrid. Actualmente (2010-2013), es doctora contratada JAE en el Centro de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas. Con anterioridad ha sido profesora de español y traductora en Eslovenia y en España. Sus campos de especialización son la lengua y literatura judeoespañolas de Bosnia, con especial énfasis en la prosa rabínica sefardí (textos legales y narrativos), tanto en el contexto centroeuropeo como en el otomano del siglo XIX, temas acerca de los cuales ha publicado varios estudios. En los últimos años se ha dedicado también a la prensa sefardí, concretamente al análisis de una polémica surgida en 1972 en el periódico vienes El Coreo de Viena, publicado en judeoespañol en esa ciudad entre 1870 y 1884.

Abstract:

This book of Sephardic philology presents an edition of Sefer Méšec betí, a work written in aljamiado Hebrew by Rabbi Eliezer Papo and published in Sarajevo (Bosnia) in 1874. This example of Sephardic rabbinic literature in the Judeo-Spanish language describes customs associated with the Sabbath festival, stories with a moral, ethical and moral teachings and a variety of news about the private and family life of the Sephardim in Bosnia late nineteenth century. The book opens with an introduction explaining the meaning of the feast of the Sabbath in Judaism and outlining the editing criteria and the aljamiado text transcription system. It continues with a study of the author and the work, followed by the annotated edition of Méšec betí, and is rounded off with a glossary of difficult terms and a bibliography.
